The Second Round of Stimulus Funding Presents New Rules and New Opportunities for Broadband Wireless

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provides an increase of $7.2 billion for the development of broadband wireless. The second round of application acceptance begins August 14th, 2009. Funding is available and distributed through the Federal Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). There is a limited time to initiate an application and these programs are looking for projects that can be completed within a year.

The RUS Broadband Initiative Program (BIP) focuses on the development of broadband access in rural areas, while the NTIA Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) has a slightly broader goal of developing networks for education, public safety and economic growth in underserved communities.
